APS Sleeve bearing Twin Turbo Chargers INFO:

If any component can be truly described as the “heart” of a turbo system, then the APS 350Z system truly has the biggest heart of all!! Or, should that be TWO hearts?!! Twin, state of the art and water cooled sleeve bearing twin turbochargers deliver ballistic power with bullet proof turbocharger reliability - and with a custom APS aerodynamic configuration, that ballistic power is delivered in an extreme efficiency and super compact package that is ideally suited to the 350Z vehicle dynamics. In fact, with a built engine, how about 800 hp air flow capacity at just 16 psi of turbocharger boost pressure! Given that the engine with stock heads/cams will produce around 550hp flywheel at this boost, it can be seen that significant headroom remains in the available turbocharger capacity. Or to put it another way, just add the APS Twin Turbo System for an instant 150 hp adrenalin shot at only 8 psi of boost pressure - obviously the turbochargers are extremely efficient and under-stressed at this power level!

APS Intercooler INFO:

If the turbocharger can be described as the heart of the system, then the intercooler must surely be the lungs!! APS has designed and manufactured a custom configured, vertical flow high efficiency intercooler utilizing custom designed light weight cast aluminum end tanks. Extremely high flow rates and massive temperature reduction - a level of performance that other manufacturers can only aspire to achieve. With a huge 25 x 9 x 3.5 core, at 650 hp flywheel, the pressure drop is less than 1.0 psi. At the same turbocharger flow conditions, the intercooler outlet temperature is less than 15°F higher than ambient, at any vehicle speed over 50mph. Truly outstanding results at such a huge horsepower level. So just like the APS turbochargers, the APS intercooler has massive additional headroom available.

APS Piping INFO:

O.E. quality flexible air ducting connects the air cleaners to polished 304 stainless steel compressor inlet ducts. The shortest possible routing, equal length, mandrel bent, polished 304 stainless steel ducting, connects the compressor discharges to the twin intercooler inlets. This contributes to the brilliant boost response of the APS 350Z turbo systems. Custom turbocharger flanges in 304 stainless steel ensure bullet proof connection to each turbocharger and optimum air flow. In addition, ancillary connections such as those to the blow off valve and blow off valve return lines are positioned for optimum air flow so that the already crisp turbocharger response in accentuated during gear changes. All hose connection faces are heavily beaded for ultra-reliable hose retention under extreme boost conditions Ducting length is critical on the 350 Z in order to achieve balanced induction and excellent driveability. By designing the turbocharger to intercooler ducting specifically to be of equal length, each turbocharger experiences exactly the same effective air path to the intercooler which results in totally balanced turbocharger performance. Other systems that are designed with unequal length, experience boost pressure and air movement issues where under certain conditions, one turbocharger pushes air back through the intercooler and into the other turbocharger ducting. As air movement is momentum based, this is simply wasted energy that should be better put towards producing horsepower, not restriction. In addition, these systems of unequal length take the charge air from one turbocharger all the way across the engine bay to the other side in order to enter the single air entry point to the intercooler. This creates a massive restriction compounded even further by having to turn almost 180 degrees in order to enter the intercooler. The advanced APS dual entry intercooler not only solves this problem but allows APS to utilize true equal length ducting - the most efficient routing for the twin turbo Z! A custom moulded silicon hose connects the intercooler outlet to the combination MAP/throttle body inlet duct. Again, the shortest possible routing has been utilised in mandrel bent, polished 304 stainless steel and precision TIG welded. In addition to the MAF sensor mounting provision, connection is incorporated for the APS high volume, dual vent blow off valve which is supplied as standard in the APS 350Z turbo system.

APS Cast Turbo Manifolds INFO:

The latest in bulletproof twin ball bearing turbocharger technology is just part of the story. Exhaust gasses that feed each turbocharger must arrive at the turbine with the maximum amount of gas energy in order to ensure crisp turbocharger response and wicked power. APS has designed, tooled and manufactured in high temperature resistant iron, cast exhaust manifolds and turbine outlets. Fabricated components simply look racy but for street durability in excess of 5,000 miles, castings are a must! Not only are APSs components cast, they have been designed to maximize flow and close couple the turbine housings to the exhaust ports, for the most efficient transfer of heat energy (which is what actually drives the turbine) and consequently absolutely instantaneous turbocharger boost response. The high thermal inertia provided by the APS cast manifolds is crucial in transferring energy and raising the efficiency of each turbocharger - cast manifolds perform this function much better than any fabricated solution. This is particularly important under spirited driving conditions that require frequent periods of on/off throttle such as your favorite piece of twisty road. Let's face it, when you're in the middle of driving the perfect line through the apex of a corner and you squeeze the throttle through the exit of the corner, instantaneous turbocharger response and that tidal wave of torque is the ultimate rush! The only reason every other system does not use them is, the cost of tooling. One of the first indicators of a professional turbo system manufacturer is their use of precision machined cast components, particularly exhaust manifolds/turbine outlets. But engineering excellence doesn't just stop with the exhaust manifolds alone. APS cast Ni Resist High Flow Turbine Outlets scavenge exhaust gasses and ensure the highest possible energy transfer from each turbocharger. In addition, with the optimum internal outlet configuration, the APS High Flow Turbine Outlets deliver unsurpassed turbocharger wastegate performance for rock steady boost pressure.

APS Fuel System INFO:

High horsepower demands precise fuel delivery to each individual injector, particularly under demanding conditions such as drag racing and autocross. The APS upgraded fuel system is a complete bolt-on precision fuel system that consists of a comprehensive range of components designed specifically to support huge horsepower and yet retain excellent fuel atomization, fuel economy and driveability in day to day driving conditions. The drop-in Quad Orifice Directional pattern injectors supplied in the APS Single or Twin Turbo Systems flow 500 cc at 4.0 Bar (58 psi) differential fuel pressure. Each of these injectors are ideal for sustaining 100 horsepower (flywheel) while maintaining a 12.0:1 air fuel ratio - for a total of an insane 600 horsepower at the flywheel. Differential pressure is the critical yardstick when discussing injectors in forced induction applications. As boost pressure increases inside the inlet manifold where the injectors are situated (lower half of the intake manifold) the fuel rail pressure must also increase proportionally in order to maintain a constant pressure difference across the injector orifice. This is called a constant differential pressure fuel system. Less sophisticated fuel systems may not employ a constant differential pressure fuel supply - instead they maintain a constant fuel rail pressure that does not increase with increasing boost pressure. These are called constant fuel pressure systems and were only ever designed for naturally aspirated applications. The table below compares the pressure difference across a fuel injector orifice at different boost pressures for both constant fuel pressure and constant differential pressure fuel systems.

APS Fuel System

An advanced injector wiring loom is also included in the APS upgraded fuel system in order to avoid cutting and soldering of the original injector looms. After all, a bullet proof electrical connection is vital for injectors on a high performance engine such as the single or twin turbo Z. This wiring loom is unique to the industry of forced induction packages to suit the 350Z and follows the strict APS philosophy of designing and manufacturing complete systems - that are truly complete. High capacity injectors place extraordinary loads upon the fuel supply system and in the case of a high horsepower turbocharged 350Z, far higher capacity than the stock fuel pump can satisfy. APS has produced the ultimate with an in-tank mount direct replacement fuel pump that will supply up to 600 horsepower (flywheel) at 4.5 Bar fuel pressure at 13.5 Volts. This is the operating fuel pressure when the APS Twin Turbo System intake manifold pressure sensing 4.0 Bar regulator registers 0.5 Bar (7.3 psi) boost pressure.

APS Intake INFO:

APS has designed and manufactured vehicle specific air cleaners that deliver a huge volume of cold air to each turbocharger. Most importantly from an air temperature perspective, APS has positioned them outside the engine compartment. Unlike ram pods which source hot air from under the bonnet, the APS system breathes cool air from the inner guard for the optimum engine performance and durability. More importantly the air through the APS high flow air intake system is consistent in temperature. This means that the engine management unit's temperature compensation system operates correctly - unlike devices that source air from the highly turbulent areas under hood.

APS Oil Pan INFO:

High engine horsepower demands the very best in lubrication, particulalry when the Z is driven under extreme motorsport conditions such as Autocross, Drag racing and Circuit racing. In that light, APS has developed the ultimate engine oil pan that not only improves engine oil supply to the pick-up, but also increases the engine oil capacity by a huge 1.25 quarts. This alone reduces oil temperature and helps to protect the Z engine. In addition, the APS oil pan has multiple air fins cast on the external surface of the oil pan to further assist oil cooling under extreme engine operating conditions. Crafted in cast alloy and then precision machined, the APS engine oil pan has provision for twin oil return lines in turbocharged applications and with additional baffles in the oil pan, oil surge under track/race conditions is reduced significantly.

APS Blow Off Valve INFO:

With the huge air flow capacity of the APS turbochargers utilized in the APS Intercooled Twin Turbo High Output System, the unique APS High Volume Twin Vent Blow Off Valve delivers unsurpassed venting performance, excellent driveability and crisp turbocharger response in on/off throttle applications. A blow off valve is a device that releases pressure from the turbocharger when the throttle is released. It ensures that the pressure shock load on the turbocharger compressor is minimized and encourages each turbocharger rotating group to continue spinning during gear changes. This ensures that when the next gear is selected and the throttle re-applied, both turbochargers rapidly produce high boost pressure and strong torque. With a large or twin turbochargers, releasing pressure from the turbine compressor wheel when the throttle is snapped shut is critical not only for lightning fast turbocharger response, but for turbocharger longevity. A huge volume of air must be passed through the blow off valve as soon as the throttle is closed. Most blow off valves have limitations in their design that inhibit the level of performance demanded by APS. Piston/bore diameter and venting ports are often too small and surprisingly, most will not fully expose the exhaust ports when fully opened. APS designed the APS high volume twin vent blow off valve specifically for the APS Intercooled Twin Turbo Z.
